Why are you passionate about what you teach

I am passionate about dismantling the modern exclusionary yoga “fitness” culture; instead teaching yoga as an integrated holistic approach to the radical acts of Self-exploration, Self love and Self care. For me, yoga has never been a purely physical practice – but instead an access point for regulating mental health and emotional wellbeing, while embarking upon spirituality in a fun and exciting way.

How would you describe your classes

A typical Jivamukti (flow) class with me will open with chanting and philosophy discussion, introducing the theme that is interwoven through the fabric of the class. Expect a fun, challenging and creative āsana sequence, paired with a bangin’ playlist. Guaranteed to make you sweat, laugh - maybe have a cathartic cry - and finish feeling inspired. BUT, I also believe in balance, and in recognising the ebbs and flows of our moods, body functions and energy levels – all of which contribute to varying needs across the years, months and days. We need different practices at different times. One day we may crave a sweaty 90 minute practice that pushes our perception of what our physical body is capable of; another day we may be grieving, bleeding, or recovering, and in need of an introspective, slow and gentle practice like yin or restorative. It is my joy and privilege to offer a variety of classes across the whole spectrum.

Your favourite holiday destination

My mum’s organic macadamia farm in the remote pristine rainforest on the Comboyne plateau (Mid North Coast of NSW).

Tell us something you love to do outside of the studio

I love dancing, rock climbing, snow boarding, swimming in the ocean, astrology, cooking, reading, making soaps and candles, watching every episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, disappearing into the bush, going on adventures with my love and meeting people across the world who share similar interests.

What inspires you

My teachers, and the ongoing process of being a student. Young people who are determined to stop the climate crisis from escalating. Anyone working to overthrow the capitalist, patriarchal society in which we live. Mother nature, who endures and perseveres despite all we do to her. All who are committed to living a peaceful and harmonious life, with kindness and compassion.
